Pair Of Stendig Prague Bentwood Dining Chairs Mid-century,Needs Restoration.

Originally designed by either Josef Hoffman or Josef Frank in the 1920s for Michael Thonet's company, these chairs were put back in production and exported in the 1960s by Stendig, from Czechoslovakia. Also known as the Prague 811 Chair, they are a symbol of the Prague Spring--a visual homage to the cosmopolitan and unapologetically optimistic spirit of the movement. Chairs have the original Stendig label. Structurally, the chair features a 6 foot circular bentwood frame with a hand-woven cane seat and backrest. Extremely practical and well-designed, an iconic work by a progenitor of Modernism. This is a set of six matching chairs, an extremely rare find. Owned and cherished by one family since their purchase. Incredibly solid workmanship, beautiful and modern. These chairs have been featured in many high design settings, such as Sophia Coppolla's design spread for Interior Collective
