Native American Plains Indian stone head war club. PROVENANCE

A Plains stone head club with pointed ends and drilled, with a wood shaft with leather covering and strap. It appears to have some age to it and use.

Provenance: The Ian West Collection. Purchased: F. North, London, UK, 1959.

Ian Morris West (1924-2015) was a passionate collector of Native American Indian objects. He was friends with Edward H. Blackmore (1898-1983), the foremost authority of Native American Indians in the UK, and Dr. Colin Taylor (1937– 2004) a noted ethnologist on the subject. He had a museum at his home ‘The Forge’ in Sussex. He wrote ‘Portraits of Native Americans’ published by Salamander Books in 1997.
