Ethnographic antique. Venetian ’fancy’ glass trade bead necklace. 19th century

A fine trade bead necklace, probably from Ghana. It consists of six green ‘fancy’ tube beads with trailed lamp-work eyes (yellow), two sizes of green ‘King’ beads, nickel silver North African collared oval beads and small ’watermelon’ type chevrons flanking the tube beads. Beads similar to these can be seen in ‘The World in a Bead’ by Augusto Panini, published by The Murano Glass Museum - See page 149 #105 sample card of Societa Fabbriche Unite (founded 1848)

Strand length: 80cm
Tube bead size: 12mm diameter x 31mm long
King bead sizes: 11mm and 19mm diameters
Weight: 136gm

This is a balanced necklace that has clearly been collected in Africa. Fine ethnographic example.
