Himalayan necklace - Coin-silver, Phenolic resin amber, conch shell, Amulets, Venetian beads

 beautiful traditional Himalayan necklace comprising three large Phenolic-resin focal beads (Faturan), Coin-silver collared beads, horn, tapered conch shell beads, Venetian trade beads, various nickel-silver amulets (including two Indian coins, one dated 1913), glass beads and two nickel-brass ‘paddle-bat’ pendant beads. The whole traditionally strung with an adjustable plaited braid.

The necklace has been carefully cleaned and the focal bead retain their patina. The metal beads are nickel-silver and have polished to a pleasing warm colour whilst retaining patina.

Lovely example of an authentic Himalayan region necklace of good age.

Romy Rey (1938-2020) was born in Zurich, Switzerland. She trained as an artist in Paris and Geneva before settling in London in the early 1960s where she was a partner in two bookshops in Hampstead and Richmond. She shared her life with the artist, Brian Davies (1942-2014). The whole of her five-storey house in Richmond bustled with her “impeccably curated” collection of ethnographic art. Purchased at one of the disposal auctions
