Vintage Japanese Nambu cast iron rectangular ashtray made by IWACHU in Morioka City, the home (or one of the two homes, to be precise) of Nambu Ironware in Iwate Prefecture.

The four-kanji-character word on the lid reads "Ippuku Senko(u)" (One Puff, Thousand Thoughts) -- meaning it is better to take a smoke break and refresh one's mind to get some good wisdom instead of thinking through one thing.

Nambu Ironware (or Nambu tekki in Japanese) is a form of metalwork produced in Iwate, a north-eastern prefecture in Japan. It is a traditional craft that was first created in the middle of the Edo period (1603-1868). The name "Nambu Ironware" comes from the fact that it was first produced in the Nambu domain during the Edo period.
