As you
may (or may not) be aware, Fisher receivers have substantial problems
in the biasing of the output tubes. They were biased WAY to hot even as new,
and as the selenium bias
rectifier ages, the bias supply voltage gets weaker and weaker. Under these
conditions the receiver is always operating at excessively high temperatures due to the strain and your
output tubes are not-so-slowly cooking themselves to failure.
The eventual and inevitable result is that your precious set is running hotter and hotter until final failure forces "repair",
and the replacement of some costly output tubes!
Even as they left the factory the 7868 tubes were aging at a
VERY accelerated rate due to high idling currents. This can and MUST be
corrected before the set is used for any length of time.
As an added benefit, the power supply will operate in a more
relaxed fashion, and the much cooler operating temperatures will be immediately
noticed. Just think of all the stress the power transformer is under, and this
power and output tube life is being wasted just to generate HEAT, even when NO music is playing!
In addition, ALL of the small electrolytics have developed leakage and other
age related problems. The original mylar signal caps are now fragile and leaky
after 50+ years of heat and torture. The failure of a coupling capacitor or
shorted tube can easily spell disaster for an output transformer.
Installation of our kits requires good soldering skills and
the ability to follow a schematic, although if you
know which end of a soldering iron to hold you should not encounter any major
problems.
Our RESTO-PAKS contain the
finest quality modern components available today. This
includes ALL small electrolytic capacitors as well as ALL signal
and coupling capacitors that normally fail. Approximately 30 individual
components in all need to be installed/replaced. Yes it will take you some time
but the effort will be rewarding and well worth it.
Also included are the very specific resistors required to
correct the FM De-emphasis. FM De-emphasis is 75us (microseconds)
which is the North American standard. ALL Fisher stereo tube
receivers and tuners employ excessive De-emphasis and therefore are NOT
de-emphasizing the FM audio at the proper rate. The result is a loss of natural
highs due to the attenuation of the high frequency response in Mono and Stereo.
When corrected (a simple change of a few resistors which are
included in EVERY RESTO-PAK) the result is astounding.
We can even modify the Resto-Pak for
the European Standard of 50us at no extra charge!
Also, a new, heavy duty Silicon Bias full wave rectifier is supplied, and Bias
adjusting instructions and parts are included.
New super heavy duty power supply diodes and VERY
detailed instructions are included as well.
Output transformer protection is achieved, and the installation
of our kit will provide the ability to determine the PRECISE degree
to which your output tubes are matched using only a digital DC voltmeter!
Our package includes a nice enlarged copy of the original
owners manual, the CORRECT service manual for your specific unit (determined by
the serial number), and our detailed restoration procedure covering everything
except alignment (which is covered in the service manual, however, test
equipment is needed).
We now include COLOR PHOTOS that have
been marked to show critical areas in great detail so you can identify EXACTLY where
and how to install the new components!
The procedure addresses MANY potential weak
spots in the unit such as MPX coils that may drift in value and capacitors that
tend to leak. Also, the benefits of cathode resistor installation on each
output tube are explained in detail.
All capacitors that must be changed in the entire set are
noted in the manuals on an individual basis with crystal clear
instructions. All
parts are identified by specific Fisher part number for clear and easy parts
identification.
Phase Inverter adjustment instructions are also included.
Also included are very detailed instructions
on SAFELY cleaning the dial glass without damaging the
delicate screening, and cleaning the face panel and chassis - there are even
notes on effective soldering technique and general safety issues.

CAUTION! Be VERY careful when using Russian 7868 tubes ESPECIALLY EH! The pins are NOT the correct pins. They are too thick and will stretch out your sockets so that you will not be able to use vintage tubes again unless the sockets are re-tensioned or replaced!
