This is a beautifully presented Guillotine from the early 20th century.
The cast iron guillotine is in a working condition. It can be used by a bookbinder or hobbyist or as an eye catching display in a retail, Restaurant or coffee shop. Here are some ideas:
- Put a glass top on it and make it into a bar
- Put bags of coffee beans on it to sell in a coffee shop
- Antiquarian or Vintage Book display, or perhaps 'Book of the Week' eye-catcher outside the front of your store (it's so heavy no one will be able to steal it!
- Entrance to a restaurant to display a visitors book or menus
- Use it for it's purpose - to cut paper!
The plaque on the piece reads:
THE CHANDLER & PRICE Co
CLEAVELAND. OHIO.
PATENTED DEC 14.1909
It's been tested and can cut through an entire book, although the blade could do with a sharpen, as it leaves it a little rough; well certainly not good enough for a paid service bookbinder. It does come with a second blade, although this is also in a used condition. Should you need a new blade, these can be easily fabricated down at your local fabrication shop, just take in the existing one for them to copy.
