RHODOPHIALA BIFIDA var. SPATHACEA, PINK OXBLOOD LILY, SCHOOLHOUSE LILY

This is a very lovely bulbous plant from Uruguay and Argentina, sometimes offered as Amaryllis spathacea. In late spring or summer trumpet flowers 5-6 cm across with narrow petals appear on upright stems to 30 cm tall. The flowers are brilliant dark pink in colour. Easy from seeds, long lived perennial that multiply bulbs year after year and quickly forms dense clumps. Late spring or in winter the plant has short dormant period It is hardy to -15 C, so in colder climates should be grown in protected, sheltered spot and mulched for winter or cultivated in pots or containers. Good house-plant.
