Cooke (Hull) Marine Sextant 1970

A very good marine sextant by Cooke (Hull) with a 6x30 monocular (non-reflective coated optics) viewing scope. Number 3353 and correctly certified in its original mahogany carry-box with handle. Catches work well but key is lost.

The instrument is intact with a very good index mirror complete with 4 swinging index shades (glass all good). The split horizon mirror is excellent with 2 swinging horizon shades (glass good).

The index arm (with the Cooke logo plate) operates smoothly with a good release catch/locking device. The thimble, micro-meter drum and vernier scale all work correctly. Gearing on the arc is good.

The monocular armature can be adjusted on a slide by loosening the thumb screw. Focus of the monocular is smooth and nicely damped.

There is a nut adjusting pin in the case. Case is sturdy.

The instrument and case are in good clean working order. There is slight working-life corrosion to the instruments screws and nuts. A lovely working instrument with a superior monocular scope. Please examine photographs as these form part of the condition report.
