This book has family provenance being gifted by one descendant of its subject Matthew Fontaine Maury to another. An inscription inside the front cover dated May 1967 reads:

Thought you should have this as you are the one in your generation to carry the Fontaine name forward in our branch of the family."

Acceptable condition. Dust jacket has lots of wear with folds, spotting, and chipping. Spotting to the right edge of the page block. Covers are slightly bowed/bent. Acceptable reading copy with interesting family provenance.
