GENTIANA VERNA var. ANGULOSA, SPRING GENTIAN

One of the smallest gentian species, but very showy and eye catching when blooms. This hardy, compact perennial forming a mat of small, lance- shaped evergreen, greyish-green leaves. Short, erect stems carry large (3,5 cm across), solitary, deep blue flowers with wide spread lobes.

The main flowering time is April and May but if deadheaded usually rebloom in autumn. Variety “angulosa” is very vigorous, easy to grow and tolerates different soils. Ideal for alpine gardens, edging, pots and containers. This plant gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit (AGM). Rarely offered.
