The Royal Poinciana Tree is also known as Flamboyant or Flame tree and is originally native from Madagascar (Indian Ocean). Botanical Name: Delonix Regia. It grows to a majestic size and has fabulous color that is very striking here in South Florida and other parts of the world. This lovely tree is decorated in summer with rich orange-scarlet red flowers on its umbrella-shaped crown of fine-textured fern-like leaves. The seed pods are green and soft when young and turn dark brown and woody when they mature and fall to the ground in spring. These are dried seed pods and no longer contain seeds. The color is various shades of brown. These wooden-like pods can be used in dried décor arrangements indoors or out. They have been used in various craft projects and frame making (wet and place heavy object on top to flatten if preferred). They can be painted and or drilled to make windchimes and other hanging abstract earth natural element art. They look great in a vase with other dried items.
