Spode is England’s oldest pottery company, with a proud heritage that spans back almost two hundred years. Spode pottery is a true British icon.

Perhaps the most famous of Spode’s collections has to be Blue Italian. Dating back to 1816, this distinctive range of blue and white dinnerware and dinner accessories has since become the pottery company’s signature pattern, continuing to grace homes right up to the present day.

Made using the same time-honoured techniques of the 1800s, Blue Italian adopts a detailed Imari Oriental border, a pattern found in Japanese art. By contrast, this Asian frame encompasses an idyllic image of the Italian countryside, as it was imagined when Blue Italian was first designed. All of this is set against a crisp white base – a technique originally pioneered by Josiah Spode I, the founder of Spode, way back in the 1700s.
