Massive 42" Antique Wood & Steel Wine Beer Cask Barrel Bung Hammer (CH1) from a bygone era. This is a massive steel wrapped hammer that was used to install and remove bungs from huge wooden wine or beer casks/barrels. Due to the size this is the type of hammer that was used to seal and unseal the really large casks. The hammer is approx 42" from tip to tip of the handle. The hammer is approx 9 1/4" across (pic 2) x approx 6 1/4" in diameter (pic 5) and weighs just shy of 16 lbs. The steel collar that wraps the wooden hammer head is still very solid. All in all a very nice antique display piece. If I had to wager a guess I would think this dates to the mid to late 1800's.
