Odd value stamps from Germany
In 2001/2 with the introduction of the € and the exchangerate from DM into € some stamp values became odd with values of 0,51 (for 1,00 DM) and 0,56 (for 1,10 DM).
After reducing the price for a letter from 0,56 € to 0,55 € (2003-2012), in 2013 the price rose to 0,58 € and again in 2014 to 0,60 € and in 2015 to 0,62 €.
Those odd value stamps of 0,51 €, 0,56 €, 0,58 € and 0,62 €, required sustitutional values to be able to be used when prices for a letter became 0,70 € in 2016-2018, 0,80 € in 2019-2021, and 0,85 € in 2022.

From above table one can see that any supplemental values between 1 and 10 cent were useful. Officially printed were stamps of 0,02 € and 0,03 €, 0,05 € and 0,08 €. The other values one could only buy from stamp selling machines which however to most customers are/ were not easily available (the number of stamp selling machines in Germany sunk from 28.038 in 1984 to around 6000 since the introduction of the EUR in 2002. Since then the number drops continually.)
E.g. in my homeplace Wiesbaden, a larger medium sized city in Germany and capital of the state of Hessen with less than 280.000 inhabitants still has 3 machines, though none of them in the city center and one of them in a southern suburb (but one opposite the railway station). So buying those supplementary stamps can’t be done passing by while shopping but has to be planned separately/ becomes a project on it’s own, that not many people did (they usually overpayed for their letters).
