Antique Etched Beer Stein by J.W.Remy Cavaliers in Tavern #854 c.1900s

Description: This beautiful very old German beer stein is made in "etched" technique - the contours of the decoration are incised into the body. This technique was used by different manufacturers around the turn of the 19th century - the most famous was Mettlach, but also J.W.Remy, Hauber and Reuther, and some others used it to create very attractive (and also expensive at the time), exclusive beer vessels.

This one was made by J.W. Remy around early 1900. The scene on the stein shows two Renaissance cavaliers in a tavern - a favorite subject in the Golden Age of beer stein making. The inscription reads:

“Trink, verscheuch’ die Sorgen,
denke nicht an Morgen.”

(Drink, drive away the worries,
don’t think about tomorrow.)

The lid is pewter with ceramic inlay which is also etched.

The stein is in excellent condition - no chips, lines or any other damages.   It is smaller, 0.25L version, 6.5" tall.
