I removed the batteries he came with as they had died. So yes, I tested with my trusted Energizers, and he works great.  He almost flooped off the photo table. I did note a small spot where the battery  compartment is. There seems to be a zip tie that will poke thru the back edge of the box. I believe it can be fixed with thread and needle. I do not do touch-ups as I feel it is misleading.
