CONTACTORS FOR SWITCHING CAPACITOR BANKS Contactors of this type are equipped with early activation contacts. This special type of contacts is designed to connect resistors that limit the switching current of capacitors for a very short period (2-3 ms when the contactor closes). These resistors are then turned off when the contactor closes is completed and the current carrying capacity is transferred to the main contacts. With this type of circuit, it is possible to significantly reduce the consumption of all system components, especially fuses and capacitors, which ensures extended service life and improved operational reliability. These contactors are particularly suitable for use in batteries to improve the power factor, because there is no need to use inductive limiters and the source of additional heat is eliminated. In this case, the switchgear may have more compact dimensions. The BFK version from LOVATO Electric is designed for three-phase switching. A special feature of this type of contactor is its contacts enabling the switching of limiting resistors, which close only for the time needed to limit the surge current and then open to avoid the possible flow of residual currents through the resistors.
