Ink letter datelined ''Augusta, Me., Nov. 25 1864,'' reads in part: ''…My Dear Emerson, I shall be detained some minutes, the regiment is not yet disposed of. I am 'most- tired out' (mustered), (joak!) if they are not…The men are hanging around (would to Heaven that were fact not figure of speech) and of course preventing me from doing any thing as I would wish…If any of the ladies feel inclined 'to go for…a sojer' let them open the window and distant as is the Stonly House from my office they would hear sufficient to convince them of the pandemonium in the midst of which I am…Shakespearean scholars would have a fine chance to verify the description given by that Highly esteemed patriarch of our profession. 'T'all of strange oaths, And bearded like a bard'…Especially the oaths which are beautifully mingled with their conversation. Apologize…'' McMichael mustered into service as a Lieutenant and resigned as a Major on 28 September 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia. The 9th saw action at Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Atlanta. 2pp. letter measures 5'' x 8''. Minor ink stains, otherwise near fine condition.
