Rare, Medium Sized, Flat , Antique Turkana Bowl #21, From The Nomadic Turkana People Of Kenya, Hand Carved From One Piece Of Indigenous Hard Wood, traditionally carved by the women. This one shows an atypical design of bowls found in this northern region of Kenya, it is unusually flat, but I still believe it's from the turkana people .This beautiful example of African ethnographic, utalitarian art is highly collectable. It has become harder and harder to procure these items and this one is from my personal collection, collected over two decades. It has a wonderful, dark, rich patina due to continuous use over many decades. The age is post 1940. It was used as a bowl to collect milk and as a food bowl by the semi Nomadic Turkana people of Kenya, living near lake Turkana. The wood has been carved by hand until there is only a very thin layer of wood left, ca 5 mm in thickness. There are signs of wear and usage due to its age, but this only adds to the charm and authenticity of the item. It would be a beautiful and unusual interior design piece for any room.

The bowl is 26 cm long, 18 cm wide and ca 10 cm high. It weighs ca 450 g.
