Brian Johnson (b. 5 Oct 1947) is an English singer/songwriter & 3rd lead singer of Australian rock band AC/DC after the death of member Bon Scott in '80, His 1st album with AC/DC, Back in Black (’80) became 1 of the best-selling albums of all time. Johnson is known for his distinctive voice & Geordie accent. A symbol of the working class in north England, he customarily wears a newsboy cap on stage (which his brother suggested) to prevent sweat rolling off his thick hair into his eyes while singing. AC/DC were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2014 he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Music by Northumbria University in recognition of his significant contribution to the music industry. During the Rock or Bust World Tour 2016, AC/DC announced his departure, citing hearing issues that risked total hearing loss if he continued. Johnson has stated his hearing issue wasn’t from performing for 36 years, but from forgetting to use ear plugs during a race that left him with a punctured ear drum. In 2020 Johnson returned to AC/DC to record & release the album Power Up.
