Steven Jessie Bernstein Steven Jay "Jesse" Bernstein (December 4, 1950 – October 22, 1991) was an American underground writer and performance artist. He remains famous for his recordings with Sub Pop records and close relationship with William S. Burroughs. Bernstein's substance abuse issues and mental illness contributed to his provocative local celebrity, though they ultimately culminated in his suicide. When punk came to Seattle, Jessie became friends with Cynthia Genser Aka Chinas Comidas and Rich Riggins in 1976-77. Living on Capitol Hill Jessie and Cynthia and I drank at The Comet Tavern. There's 3 papers. 1. Invitation to Jessie's wedding to Alison Lorin. Written on it is "For Cynthia Kraman Genser...one of the few poets/writers/performers I love/recognize. Signed Bersnstein. 2. Letter to Chinas Comidas liking her poetry, signed by Jessie. 3. Letter to Cynthia and Rich Riggins apologizing for his bad behavior, with a note attached saying " was trying to contact you". There's a pin hole on the upper right corner on all 3 papers. Amazing historical!
