On Magic 2, the mighty Nas continues his renaissance alongside current studio sparring partner Hit-Boy with a new album that proves exactly why he's being hailed as riding a third wave in his career. Since the pair first linked up, there's been plenty of callbacks to the classic 90s sound he first came up on, but on this album especially there's a sense of pushing things forwards and proving he's more than just a legacy act dining out on former glories. Nas sounds urgent and exploratory as he switches up his flows and rhythms, taking cues from Southern rap and hammering out triplets as much as throwing down his classic, punchy East Coast style, and the results are incendiary.
