This is an undecorated, unassembled kit meant to be configured as one of three variants of a WWI Simplex locomotive. However we've also provided a photo of a completed example for reference, along with various computer renders from when we designed the kit. This kit locomotive comes with a ready-to-run mechanism that the kit can be built around. Most of the parts for the body and details are 3D printed, specifically on an MJF machine out of PA12 nylon. While scaled for 1:43.5, the simplex is already a small locomotive and is readily at home in On30 as well.

As for the prototype? Well as the trenches on the Western Front of WWI solidified, there was a need to get men and material into and around the war zone. Internal combustion helped for the service directly on the front line, where smoke and steam would be an obvious target for gunfire and high explosive ordinance. The various versions of 40hp Simplex helped with moving materials around directly at the trench lines while providing varying levels of protection from bullets and shrapnel that undoubtedly will be encountered in a a war zone.
