LIGULARIA PRZEWALSKII, PRZEWALSKI'S GOLDEN RAY

Highly ornamental, aristocratic species from northwest China (Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu) with distinct deeply palmately lobed dark green leaves to 30 cm long and narrow inflorescences of bright yellow flowers 2 cm across in summer and early autumn. Flower spikes can reach 70 cm long. Like all ligularias it likes moist conditions, but will grow well on dryer soils when watered regularly. Depending on the conditions the plant may reach diffferent heights from 40 cm to 200 cm. Very useful in borders and looks nice in large containers. It gained Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Valuable, long lived perennial. Medicinal plant in China. Named after Nikolai Przewalski (1839- 1888) famous Russian explorer and plant collector. Flowers first year from sowing when sown early.
