HARPOCHLOA FALX, CATERPILLAR GRASS

This is a little known, unusual and beautiful perennial from South Africa. It forms neat, dark green tussocks which persist throughout the year in warmer climates. In summer. it produces inflorescences to 10 cm long, that look like shimmery blue-black, large, thick caterpillars with yellow legs. Fantastic, compact grass for borders, alpine gardens and containers. Great cut flower- both dry and fresh. Easy and quite hardy. Flowers first year when sown early.

-Sow: any time indoors; do not cover the seeds- just press them into soil; germination 14- 30 days at 15- 20 C; if no germinate after 4 weeks the cooling-period of 2 weeks is recommended (3- 8 C);

-Aftercare: full sun and well drained soil; hardy to -15 C; in colder climates winter protection recommended;
