Stanhopes are a novelty souviner which eventually was known to be sold at grand tour and tourist locations around the world. These souviners include a tiny glass insert which has microfilm on one end. The result is when you look through the insert you can see a full imagen, text or a series of images.

The insert which is know by the name of Lord Charles Stanhope, possibly because he's daughter was a known world traveller, is actually a coddington magnifier invented by Sir David Brewster in the 1830s. This was then adapted by Rene Dagron who attached microphotographs which has recently been invented by John Benjamin Dancer to the coddington magnifier. Rene Dagron then produced novelty items which included these new insert with the name Stanhope.
