1939 urea beetle TRUETONE STRATOSCOPE - ART DECO 278-5Q  -  SCARCER THAN CATALIN   -   These rust, green and brown marbled urea or beetle plastic radios from the late 30s-early 40s are scare and more fragile than Catalin. This beautiful TRUETONE example is from 1939, Model 278-5Q and has very few issues. There is one plastic pushbutton missing and there is a short tight line on the top, near the back. The line can all but disappear with a pin and some cleaning of the dirt in the line, the pushbutton or a similar substitute can be had. To most collectors, these 2 issues will not matter much. The radio is classic Art Deco with wraparound louvers, upper right pushbuttons, stylish gold and black dial, original knobs, nice marbling throughout AND the radio plays. The dial light comes on and it gets at least a few clear stations. The back is handsome with the original Stratoscope cover, the bottom bears a partial paper label and a factory stamp with the Model number. Overall, this is a great find  -  these sets are disappearing and there weren't many to begin with.
