What's on our Needles? Down the rabbit hole for Wonderland Yarns!

Mary Ann yarn has a delightfully soft hand with the perfect smoothness and durability you want. The weight is somewhere between lace/fingering and sock yarn depending on how you work the gauge.

We are holding a huge clearance sale of all our Wonderland Yarns. Mrs. Knits has curated dozens of collections coming in this Spring and Summer and sometimes we just need to make space for new offerings.

Therefore, you can see that we have all Wonderland from kits and sets to individual skeins (listed here) to mix and match to your heart’s content. The kits have been selling out fast, but we still have plenty of single skeins in multiple weights like DK, Worsted and Fingering.

The way it works is that a base fiber (like Superwash wool) is matched with color dyes which range from simple neutrals and shades to wild vibrant brights and jewel tones to name a few.

So, this is “Mary Ann” a fine gauge weight. You can also see other options in other listings for “Alice” a DK weight or “March Hare” Worsted, etc. Some are full size with roughly 300-400 yards and others are in kits or mini-skeins.

The difference? If you want us to create the color story you can buy a kit with premeasured yarns with suggested colors for precisely the project like a hat or a scarf. If you prefer to style yourself, you can buy these yarns shown here by individual skeins. At 300-400 yards on average, you would need 2-3+ skeins for most of the shawls etc.

If you really want to have fun an adult medium sweater would generally take about 1500 yards or so. Mrs. Knits wears a 2X which takes 2000 yards but that accounts for the fact that she “never met a cable she didn’t like” and cables add about 25% to the yardage you need because they simple use more yarn to create.

Why are Wonderland Yarns and Frabjous Fibers on Clearance?

For #lysday event 2023 (Local Yarn Shop Day), Wonderland Yarns spun and dyed a unique collection of yarns and kits in a limited edition package. We are not moving forward with their lines. Instead, we donate products and money to support local charity raffles, etc. More about that in my blog.

What is the Difference between Mass Produced Yarn vs Indie Yarns?

Independent (Indie) Yarn Companies (like Wonderland) design yarns a little differently than the big yarn companies. The average production of indie hand-crafted yarns is about 2000 per day in the larger yarn companies. A mass-production yarn company might produce 20,000 yarns a day. The other difference is that indie yarn's small batches mean that there are no dye lots - "dyed to order" with a formula of a base fiber, base weight, and then color from a catalog of hand-mixed dyes with delightful creative names and colors to surprise and delight the knitter/crocheter.
