I would recommend around 60 - 90 seconds is usually enough depending on your microwave settings, if you want them warmer just heat for extra 10 seconds at a time until you get the temperature you require.

I place a tiny bowl of water in microwave beside the hand warmers to avoid scorching the fabric.

Then simply put them in your pockets for toasty hands.
