In 1975, the "Ang Bagong Lipunan" series was
introduced with different designs, specifications and denominational mix from
the Pilipino series. All eight coins bear new designs and carry the inscription
Ang Bagong Lipunan ("The New Society" in the official language of the
Philippines). On September 21, 1972 President Ferdinand E. Marcos established
the New Society, a program which has revitalized the industry and agriculture
of the Philippines. Two new denominations are included in the 1975 coinage of the Philippines. The fifty-piso coin, minted in solid sterling silver, and the five-piso coin, minted in pure nickel, both pay tribute to President Marcos on his tenth anniversary in office.
