Silica fume is a highly reactive micro silica used in high performance concrete products. It’s a light grey bi-product that is produced during the production of silicon alloys. When used as a 10-20% replacement for portland cement in a mix it creates more impermeable concrete that resists salt, acid and chloride ion penetration. Higher compressive strength, more durable, smoother finish surface and reduced bleeding/segregation of the mix. Specialty mixes containing silica fume can achieve compressive strength of over 25,000 psi.
