1785 Connecticut >> PCGS VF25 << Miller 5-F.5 (obverse in LDS) MBR Copper
|
- W-2385 (Whitman reference number on page 101), also known as a Miller 5-F.5 MBR (Mailed Bust Right) Connecticut Colonial Copper Coin. The obverse is in a LDS (Late Die State) as indicated by the "two oblong die breaks" from the chin to the neck which are in an advanced (and interesting) state.
- This coin is listed as URS-9 (R4+) in Whitman's rarity scale.
- ex: LakeHouse Collection PCGS Registry Set: Early American Coins And Tokens with Major Varieties (1616-1820).
- Very Conservatively graded & certified by PCGS as VF25. My understanding is that this coin was previously graded & certified by NGC as VF30 but was taken-out of that heavily scratched & unattractive holder and sent to PCGS a few years ago where it received the more conservative grade of VF25.
- Attractive medium to dark brown surfaces. There are a few fine scratches on the PCGS plastic holder itself (especially on the reverse), but these fine scratches are not on the coin.
- All legends and devices are complete & clear with just a bit of flatness of strike or wear at the very center of both sides of the coin.
- No significant problems of any kind, and "Choice for the Grade".
- Whitman's lists a price of $1,025 in VF25 condition (by averaging his values of $700 in VF20 and $2,000 in XF40).
- Free Insured USPS Priority Mail with Signature Confirmation (trackable) to anywhere in the United States.
