MORE ABOUT AFRICAN VIOLETS to get you started: African Violets are typically classified by size, based on how wide their crown grows:

Miniature: less than 15cm across a single crown

Semi-Miniature: between 15 - 20 cm across a single crown

Standard: 20 - 40cm across a single crown

Large: more than 40cm across a single crown

Trailers: they also classify by size as above with the only exception that trailers grow many crowns clustered on one elongated stem or in an ample bush.

A good potting soil for African Violets actually contains no soil (or dirt) at all. A good potting soil will be very light and porous, a quality which enhances aeration, while keeping the soil moist, but not soggy.

GENETIC MUTATIONS HIGHLIGHTS - called 'Sport' A mutation in an African Violet is a change that exhibits physical characteristics indicative of the genetic change in that variety. African Violet sports occur naturally and therefore cannot be controlled nor predicted. It may be a sometimes dramatic color change of the flower or leaves. Mutations, or 'sports' are super interesting...you never know FOR SURE what you might get when you put down an African Violet leaf.
