All pipes are born free!

Come rain or shine, we do our best to restore pipes to their former glory, making them as fresh and shining as they were in the beginning of their lifespan. In the restoration process, we put forth our best efforts to clean the pipe using taste- and odor-free alcohol and professional cleaning agents. We ream the chamber and cover it with an active charcoal-based bowl coat, if necessary. We also address scratches, chips, and teeth marks by either removing them or patching them. If needed, we refresh staining, and finally, we buff, wax, and polish the pipe once again.

Undoubtedly, it may not be an easy task to restore a masterpiece with decades of history, and sometimes the result of restoration may be very good but not ideal. Therefore, we must acknowledge the existence of minor drawbacks such as wear, darkening, slight roughness, and scratches inside the chamber, as well as insignificant shape asymmetry in the bowl, chamber, or stem, factory fills, and small splits between the shank and stem. Any other possible shortcomings, if present, will be depicted in our pictures or described in detail separately.

Hence, we kindly request you to carefully examine all the pictures as they are an integral part of our description. We always strive to provide you with the clearest and most realistic view, allowing you to even see the smallest dots, particles, and imperfections. Please note that the actual color may slightly differ from its appearance on your screen, which can be influenced by your screen's settings.

Additionally, we would like to draw your attention to the approximate dimensions we provide, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1-2 mm. To ensure your convenience, we include measurements in both centimeters and inches in our listings, ensuring that our buyers receive a pipe of the desired size and weight.

According to Pipedia, George W. Sims used to work for Charatan’s (which is clearly visible in some Sims pipes) and for Barling (which is also not excluded). But finally, he found himself as an independent tobacconist and the owner of a little shop in Northern London, which existed until 1980. “G.W. Sims was one of the few English pipe makers who produced Danish style freehands carved from specially selected plateau briar. Mr. Sims willingly made pipes to personal specifications” (Pipedia). Some customers made a long way from other English cities to purchase wonderful G.W. Sims pipes for their collection.

It seems that the previous owner was not a very careful person: due to intensive cleaning, the bottom of the chamber has dropped a bit, and due to the habit of putting the pipe in an ashtray, several dark spots can be seen on the surface of the bowl. The habit of knocking the pipe out on hard objects is also harmful – this leads to the appearance of dents and scratches. So we had to patch and polish the existing dents, and raise the bottom of the chamber using activated charcoal (the pipe was tested for several hours at a temperature of 100 degrees Celsius – everything is reliable). The mouthpiece had a noticeable deep bite near the button – it was also patched, as you can see from the mark. In other words, we had to use a lot of skills and techniques to give the pipe a second life. And we hope that this wonderful G.W. Sims horn will be happy in its new cozy home.
