Originaire du peuple Beti du Cameroun.
Début/milieu XXème siècle.
Belle patine.
Ces jetons sont faits dans la graine d'un arbre appelé Elma.
Les jetons n'ont pas de signification particulière, mais permettaient d'identifier le joueurs.
Ce jeu d'argent a connu ses heures de gloire au XIXème, principalement au Cameroun et au Gabon.
Les joueurs malchanceux finissaient par perdre leurs femmes, enfants, maisons.
Considérant ce jeu malsain pour les autochtones, l'administration coloniale Allemande de l'époque décida d'interdire le jeu en punissant de pendaison tout artisan créant des jetons.

These tokens are made from the seed of a tree called Elma.
The tokens have no particular meaning, but allowed the players to be identified.
This gambling game had its heyday in the 19th century, mainly in Cameroon and Gabon.
Unlucky players ended up losing their wives, children, homes.
Considering this game unhealthy for the natives, the German colonial administration at the time decided to ban the game by punishing any craftsman creating tokens with hanging.
