This is a traditionally shaped pint-sized pewter tankard. It has a triple band design on its body near its lip, another near its base and an ornate fishtail handle. It is engraved at the middle of its body with the words, "Hospital Doctor Rugby Sevens 1981."

It is probably silver-plated although there are no markings on its body to support this it does have a silver-plated appearance to it.

It was made in the second half of the twentieth century; no later than 1981. Unfortunately it does not have a makers mark on it.

The item has probably been kept in a private home from new as it does not have any weights and measures marks on it.

Condition

The item has been tested and is watertight.

It has no noticeable indentations on its body caused by impact damage. There are no tears to the body of the vessel. The lip of the vessel is not misshapen. It is covered in numerous small scratches and scuffs but nothing serious.

The handle is solid.

The silver-plate is in good overall condition.

There are no signs of the silver-plate having pitted.

There are signs of the silver-plate having oxidised on the handle, on the underside and inside the tankard.

There are a small number of black areas on the left side of the tankard where the silver-plate may have bubbled and flaked off.

There are no signs of the silver-plate having worn through.
