This is the Decoration of Chivalry medal consisting of a cross of ancient design made of white enamel imbedded in a golden frame having mounted on its face a heart of scarlet enamel bearing a golden crown and has engraved on the back the 8A monogram and the motto of action "Be Just Merciful Honorable and Brave." The bottom of the cross on the back has the engraving CALIFORNIA 580
