RARE LOVELY SHAPE SWISS BLACK ENAMEL COLOURFUL SIGNED THOUNE CERAMIC TEAPOT 4”

This is a rare, small, round ceramic enamel teapot with a beautiful floral pattern and colourful design. The teapot is signed by Thoune, a Swiss brand known for its unique and lovely multicoloured tableware. This small and beautifully formed adorable teapot has a lid with finial, hand painted absolutely everywhere….making it perfect for enjoying a cup of tea. (In the photos I have shown it on a granite stand with a concave centre). This is not included in the sale price but could be negotiated if required!!)

A rare Swiss Thoune teapot in floral multicoloured with beautifully enamelling. The teapot was most likely made in Switzerland by Johann Wanzertied in the mid to late 19th century. THOUNE is written in Cursive script attached to a white ceramic plaque and applied to the base.

A very decorative piece and a very sweet shape. Many of the glass and ceramic ideas of this time period took inspiration from the Chinese Cloisonné patterns which this could be said to be similar in certain aspects.

This antique art nouveau-style teapot is a must-have for collectors and tea lovers alike. It was handmade in Switzerland and is an original piece from the late 19th century.

I have added a couple of other fantastic THOUNE teapots just for interest. The cat and the owl….fantastic.

MEASUREMENTS: The teapot is 7.5 inches in length, 5 inches in width, and 4 inches in

CONDITION: Really good condition commensurate with its age. There are a few nibbles on the inside of the lid and a few on the tip of the spout. Please see photos.

RESEARCH:

THOUNE…..

Thoune, Thun, Thonne, Thuner Majolika - all the same thing; pottery from the place previously known as Heimberg in Switzerland. It is pronounced 'toon' as in Roger Rabbit.

It is attractive and highly distinctive intricately slip-decorated earthenware. The colours used are white, green, yellow, orange and blue, usually on a dark slip background which is often a deep, rich brown.

Many companies made Thoune pottery, mostly small concerns. A couple of dozen are still operating. The most sought-after artist potter is Johann Wanzenried, who was active in the nineteenth century.
