1963-1967 Corvette Glove Compartment Lock Case; Simulated Chrome Finish

For sale is a used, glove compartment lock case for 1963 through 1967 Corvette. Original glove box lock cases for 63-67 Corvette were flash chrome plated. Lock cases with the flash chrome plating were never available from GM as over-the-counter service replacements. Used, flash chrome plated lock cases in good condition are impossible to find. And they cost at least $125 in the unlikely event that you do ever find one. Reproduction glove box lock cases are not configured the same as GM lock cases. The repros lack the four dimples on the back end, they lack the mold number embossing, and the plating is obviously incorrect. That leaves few alternatives. Recently, I learned of a technique to simulate the look of the flash chrome plating on GM glove lock cases, but it does not involve chrome plating per se. I believe this lock case with its simulated chrome finish is as close as you will find to the appearance of an original lock case. Note that original GM lock cases never looked perfect. If a lock case looks perfect, the judges will deduct for the case being over-restored.

In the photos, a typical service replacement glove box lock case is shown at the left, and the lock case for sale is shown at the right. You can see the obvious difference between the as-cast, dull gray, unplated lock case at the left and my simulated-chrome lock case at the right. With your purchase you will get just the one lock case at the right.
