J & M Coin and Jewellery

This 2014 $200 coin is meticulously crafted out of 99.99% pure gold, and esteems the calm yet capricious bison. This endangered mammal (the largest in North America) has experienced a tumultuous past, and could be considered symbolic of the relationship between early settlers and First Nations communities. This coin offers a tender portrait of a bison family at rest on the plains that make up their natural habitat. The coin depicts a male and female bison, alongside a young bison that turns his curious gaze towards a bird in the foreground of the image. This coin has been polished to proof perfection, and features an extremely low mintage of 350 coins.

The Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo your coin depicts a family grouping of three plains bison. The bull's side profile is seen as it stands inthe background, an imposing figure amidst the grassy landscape on this early summer day. Next to it, acow rests on its forelegs but keeps an ever-watchful eye on the calf. This young bison is inquisitively studying a black-billed magpie (seen in the foreground) as the black and white bird forages for insects along the dusty ground. Above this serene scene, the word "CANADA" and the face value "200 DOLLARS" are engraved, along with the date "2014" and thepurity "FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR" engraved on the ground below the magpie.
