GEORGE GRAINGER SMITH Small Watercolour Painting CASTLE IN LANDSCAPE c1930



George Grainger Smith (1892-1961).

George Grainger Smith, painter and printmaker, born in Hull, Yorkshire. He moved to Liverpool as a child and studied at Wallasey Art School under William Penn. On the outbreak of World War I George joined The Liverpool Pals and later moved to the Royal West Kents. In 1922 he became Art Master of Liverpool College. He exhibited in Chicago, the Royal Academy, Royal College of Art, Manchester and was a member of the Sandon Studio Society. One of his most famous paintings 'The Enemy Raid 3rd May 1941' resides at The Walker Gallery, Liverpool.
