Demitasse spoons are mostly used in the traditional practice of drinking tea, coffee, cappuccino, chai and other hot drinks. Thus demitasse spoons are often found in the home and at restaurants that serve hot drinks but also may be used to eat a desert like custard or sorbet. 

Birks made many pieces and patterns over the years, all of them are discontinued. Birks started in the 1890s and some of their patterns were in produced for many generations. Over the years there have been variations in shapes and sizes.

There is moderate use wear on the silverware. No pitting or staining but shows surfaces scratches from use and storage. 

Special note for Old English pattern only:  In the 18th century when this pattern was designed, forks were laid face down on the table so Birks offered the traditional “tip up” version and the more modern “reversed” version.
