Biography 
Richard Rackus was born in Highland Park, Michigan in 1922. Rackus moved to Los Angeles in 1936.  
He studied at Chouinard Art Institute and continued in France and Italy. Locally, he was was a pupil of Frank Tolles Chamberlain, Sam Hyde Harris, and Nicoli Fechin. During his long career he was sketch artist for the movie studios, art director of Mars Publications, illustrator for the NASA Space Program, and art professor at Yavapai College in Arizona. In 1988 he settled in the mountains of central California and continues to live there today.  
A plein-air painter, his works are of the Eucalyptus School.
