Frank Black Kyle (1914-1992)
He was an American sculptor and furniture designer from Minneapolis, though he mainly lived in California. Kyle moved to Mexico City in the early 1950s and opened his gallery where he exhibited his furniture pieces and sculptures. Kyle’s furniture designs included elegant dining sets, chairs, tables, lamps and screens. He was married several times. A WWII veteran, he served in the Navy. He reputedly was at one time Errol Flynn's bodyguard and chauffeur to Cary Grant. He had movie star good looks and could have easily gotten into movies himself, had he so desired.
Later, Kyle moved to Mexico and got married in Mexico City. He spent at least the last forty years of his life in Mexico and has a daughter living in Mexico City.Kyle lived in Michigan during the Great Depression staying with relatives who supported them all during those trying times. Frank was innovative. He owned a suit with two pair of pants which was customary in that era. He had a hole in the right seat of one pair and a hole in the left side of another pair. He solved the problem by cutting the good legs from each pair and sewing them together to complete one good pair.
