Antique 1900s Vintage Cast Iron Coal Sad Iron Press with Ball Latch & Wood Handle Possibly French

This is one handsome sad iron with an unusual & clever ball latch to open it for filling with hot coals or charcoal. It exactly matches another listing for a French iron, so that might explain the embossed logo underneath the lid with Art Nouveau style lettering. It's hard to read because its so curvy, but it could be 'Sigitsz' or 'Hgitsz'. Additionally there is the embossed model number '4', a shapely wood handle, scalloped vent holes along each side and a hinged back vent cover. Measurements are 7-3/4" length x 3-3/4" width x 8-1/4" height. It weighs 6 pounds 9.1 ounces.

The condition is very good with age appropriate wear including light surface oxidation as pictured. This sad iron will make a great addition to your kitchen decor and /or collection.
