LISTED HERE A HISTORIC MOUNTED WAR MAP
25 YEARS OLD PERFECT CONDITION

Dunkirk, May—June 1940
Map of the French coast from Boulogne to Ostend, showing the three routes for British ships evacuating troops from the beaches. Operation `Dynamo', as the evacuation was named, was completed between 26 May and 4 June 1940. In that period some 940 ships, 40 British, Dutch, French and Belgian naval vessels and the rest a rag-tag bag of privately owned vessels, ferried 338,226 mostly British troops to safety across the Channel. The question as to why Hitler stopped the advance of his army into the Dunkirk area thus allowing the evacuation at Dunkirk will remain a mystery. Influenced by Goering's view that the Luftwaffe would finish off the British, and aware of the extended lines of supply and the tiredness of his troops, Hitler halted the advance and the boost to British morale was incalculable.
