Here is a stunning SOUTH AFRICAN HAND MADE RAKU POTTERY SOUTH AFRICAN WILDLIFE FIGURINE INSPIRED BY NATURAL BEAUTY OF SOUTH AFRICAN WILDLIFE.

This particular figurine is a giraffe. It is similar to those made by The Fenix, (the original company that made this type of figurine), which is the old English name for a Phoenix. but I can't say definitively. Please let me know if you have any further information.

The giraffe is made from Raku Pottery. Raku means happiness in the accident and has it's roots in traditional Japanese firing from the early 1550s,  particularly influenced by the Buddhist tea ceremonies.

The firing process, which is at low temperatures, is said to incorporate all the elements, Earth (used to create the pottery), Fire (to heat the kiln), Air (the reduction and cooling process) and Water (the water halts the firing process).  Because the items are cooled so quickly, this causes crackling.  Raku pottery is particularly textured and quite unique.

This listing is for one animal.  I have four other animals available in different listings.

The giraffe measures approximately 23.5 cm (9 1/4")  tall and approximately 11.5 cm (4 1/2") from the tip of it's mouth to the tail.

The Raku pottery is covered in a cream glaze, which is crackled.  It has high gloss aqua, ochre, cream and sky blue framed rectangles decorating the ground colour.  It has a stylized mane and tail and has a charming face.

Underneath it's feet you can see the raw Raku and rough texture.  You will see a sticker to the back of the legs which reads "Handmade in South Africa.  There are also markings on the underside of it's tummy (see images).

This figure is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
