Shungo Sekiguchi was born in 1911 in Japan. In 1932, he contributed to the print series "One Hundred Views of Great Tokyo." Subsequently, in 1935, Sekiguchi relocated to France after securing a scholarship from the French government to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts France. During his time in France, he studied alongside two other Japanese artists, Takanori Ogisu and Tsuguji Foujita.

Following the occupation of Paris by German forces in 1940, Shungo Sekiguchi returned to Japan but maintained his connections with France. In 1952, he exhibited at the renowned Salon d'Automne and received an award for his work. Shungo Sekiguchi passed away in Japan in 2002. While he enjoyed popularity in Japan, several retrospective exhibitions have been held in his honor.
