Unique hand written record
of the receipts and expenditure of Oxford University Lacrosse Club.
The book is a hardback with
the name of the Club and the year 1921 in gilt lettering to the front board
Measures 250mm by 195mm.
Leather spine and corners.
Covers the years 1920 to
1958. There are no records between 1939 and 1949. Presumably the Club was not
operating at this time due to the War.
At the front is a list of
names of Junior Treasurers, a number of whom are from overseas (Australia,
Canada, USA). There is a different Junior Treasurer each year so the
handwriting varies throughout the book.
There are 90 double pages of
entries. Each double page is numbered.
Receipts include the names
and colleges of people who paid subscriptions.
Expenses include such things
as:
•
Stationary
•
Newspapers
•
Tickets and ticket tax.
•
Dinners, teas, drinks (usually
shandies and orange).
•
Travel including motor coaches
and train fares.
•
Gatemen, groundsman and a piper
for the Oxford Cambridge match.
•
Advertising and posters.
•
Ground rent and care of field.
•
Balls, sticks, gloves, goal
posts.
•
2 cartons of cigarettes (for
tips).
•
Photographs.
•
Fuel for showers.
•
Spirits and tobacco.
•
Breakages (2 glasses).
CONDITION. Good original
condition. Wear, scuffing and minor damage commensurate with age and many years
of use. Firm binding. 2 double pages have been cut out (this would have been
done at the time, presumably due to mistakes).
